2 short keys on communications and the transition to teleworking.

30 April, 2020

The global crisis we face, generated by Coronavirus, has changed times by accelerating the process of implementation of teleworking at many companies. Some of them have already started the process of this modality.

As reflected in our last publication, according to a report of the consultancy firm Garner, 74% of companies plan to assign teleworking to some of their employees permanently once the state of alarm ends.
.

There are different economic and technological factors to be considered when developing this transformation process.

Key 1: economic factor.

All the companies that decide to focus on teleworking should increase their expense in technologies that support teleworking, by way of example, by investing in portable devices, virtual private networks (VPN), cloud computing, data encryption, videoconference systems or IP telephony.

In fact, this can be seen as a transfer between budget allocations, since the expense of physical workplaces will be reduced.

Key 2: technological factor.

Corporate communications systems are the cornerstone of teleworking, and the companies that want to overcome this phase with guarantees should firstly opt for:

1.- IP telephone systems (cloud telephony) or continue with the ‘physical call centre’ to keep functionalities such as customer service, call distribution, live monitoring, or statistical or cost allocation systems. However, this decision will always be subject to whether 100% of the workforce teleworking or not.

2.-The employees who telework will use their home ADSL or fibre connection, or conversely, the company will provide a connection point. In the latter case, it would be feasible to be by way of a shared connection through a mobile or MIFI router with 5G technology as an alternative to the optical fibre.

3.- Safe devices and connections. Regarding the two foregoing points, it is essential for any device to be protected with encrypted and safe connections to avoid information losses or thefts.
