Nokia will build an LTE mobile network on the Moon.

NASA chose Nokia to carry out a project to build an antenna network on the Moon to improve communication on the surface of the Earth’s satellite.

Nokia will build and implement an ultra-compact, energy-efficient and weather-resistant LTE solution on the Moon.

Its installation is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.

What is LTE?

Long Term Evolution or LTE refers to the wireless broadband technology used to transmit data and thus give Internet access to mobile devices. We can say it is a technology halfway between 4G and 5G.

Voice and data.

As the Finish company explains through its subsidiary Nokia Bell Labs, this mobile network shall provide essential communication systems for different purposes such as data transfer, thus allowing the remote control of vehicles and systems, real-time navigation and HD video transmission.

In short, it will allow mobile connectivity for any communication task the astronauts require, that is, voice and video, exchange of telemetric and biometric data, control of vehicles, tools and sensors.

The first communication system in the Moon.
