Given the saturation of landline numbers starting with 9, on next weeks, telephone numbers will be extended with new dialling codes starting with 8.

According to the Spanish National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC), the Spanish provinces that will extend their telephone numbers with new dialling codes are Alicante, Almería, Cádiz, Cantabria, Ciudad Real, Huelva, Jaén, Lleida, Lugo, Madrid, Málaga, Navarra, Salamanca, Seville and Valencia.

This type of numbers is already present in other provinces like Madrid (dialling code 815), Lugo (882), Salamanca (832) and Valencia (860) since some years ago.

We all know that landline numbers have restrictions. The national telephone numbering plan so states, which is modified and updated from time to time after being supervised by the Spanish Government through the Spanish State Secretariat for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures.

The Spanish national telephone numbering plan establishes the numeric range and the first number each line should use. For instance, for the landline numbers of each province, there are ranges whose first figure is 8 or 9, and for mobile numbers, there are ranges whose first figure is 6 or 7.

Entry into force.

The new numeration will be available for all operators requesting their assignation to the CNMC once the Spanish State Secretariat for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures approves and publishes the decision at the Spanish Official Gazette.
